Some tenants who use a number of contractors use a standard contract for their business. They can either accept their contract as it is or negotiate to modify it. As a contractor, you can be a single (individual entrepreneur) or work in your own company, partnership or trust. They may even qualify as independent contractors, subcontractors or “subcontractors”. The Independent Contractors Act 2006 establishes a national system of unfair contracts for independent contractors, where they can ask a court to annul a contract if it is harsh or unfair. With respect to your use of this website and/or your use of or reliance on goods or services you receive through this website, you represent and warrant to the company and its directors, senior officers, collaborators, consultants/contractors, licensors, partners and related companies: independent contractors are not employed, they do not have a salary or minimum wage. Instead, independent contractors negotiate payment as part of their contract. An independent contractor will file an invoice if it needs to be paid. They can be paid regularly or at the end of the contract or project. Whether or not an employee is a contractor or an employee does not depend on how the agreement is called, but on the nature of the relationship. In addition to paying their own taxes, self-employed contractors may have to pay their own pension contributions.
