on Sept. 17 BURNABY, BC, Dec. 4, 2017 /CNW/ – The union representing 160 Parklandy Workers Refinery Ltd. has reached a three-year interim agreement. The market follows the industry model previously established by Unifor in negotiations with other energy companies. In 2016, Unifor and Suncor negotiated a model agreement in Fort McMurray to set a benchmark for working conditions and wages in the energy and chemical sectors. The interim agreement on the Parkland refinery was reached after an extensive round of negotiations that took place today. The agreement is consistent with the progress made in this sector and the employer has addressed important issues relating to the use of pensions. “Resource jobs are good jobs that sustain thousands of families and are the backbone of many communities. The following residents will now ratify the agreements on the different sites that will define the model: these workers deserve to participate in the awards of one of the fastest growing companies in North America, and I think this interim agreement recognizes that,” said Russ Day, President of Local 601. The contract includes salary increases of 2.5, 2.75, 3 and 3.5 percent over the duration of the contract as well as new rules for overtime.
According to the union, the new agreement is in line with the energy model agreement negotiated by Unifor in May 2019. The national model between Unifor and Suncor established a framework for local negotiations on wages, severance pay and a new energy structure to combat domestic violence.
